Looking at the wind patterns around the Tokyo area it would seem that you are getting Saitama sludge rather than Chinese crud. Generally, we get the yellow sands alot out here in winter but I haven't noticed that they are particularly bad today.

Around 2 p.m. things started getting strange here in Meguro-ku. I stepped out of a coffee shop onto Yamate-dori around then and quickly noticed a lot of shop signs and plants had been knocked over. As well very strong winds were swirling in different pockets up and down the street and moving quickly down the street to the south. Papers, small shrubs, and a lot of dust was spiraling around within the various pockets of action. Above there was a huge brown cloud that extended a few hundred feet into the air. Mixed inside were random bits of trash (plastic bags, etc.), floating south quickly and at least 100 feet up. I had never seen anything like it.

In checking the news in Japanese I can't find anything about what it might have been. In looking outside now, it is still a bit windy but clear as can be.

The sky looked kind of reddish out in Chiba.

The wind stopped the Tozai Line in Tokyo. That usually only happens in Typhoons.

What the flying fuckque is a 'Dry Air' warning?!

Is this "気象警報・注意報" some kind of cultural mental illness, or just bad translation?

Gf and I, stupidly decided to walk from Meguro station down to NishiKoyama (great Chinese resturant there) in this wind/dust storm. Just got home, too a shower, Usually, the crude scrapped from my atrophying body is not this brown, and I pulled out a box of Wheaties from my nostrils. Brown and grey boogers.....damn...shoulda taken a picture as proof.
On the brighter side of all of this, my neighbor was airing out her futon today, thing got airborne and I think it took out the neighborhood noraneko who seemed to be in heat 24-7.

Ah, I knew it was coming..

Chinese Yellow Sand hits Japan, SKorea: Officials
http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5jki0R_S3dtL7QkGEHwM-tnblCNXQ
Hazardous yellow sand from China covered parts of South Korea and Japan on Monday, keeping people indoors as Tokyo pressed Beijing to reveal more information to the public.

Schools were closed as the dust blanketed southern parts of the Korean peninsula, while Japan advised people to be cautious and predicted the dust would continue for another day.

Yellow dust -- fine sand from Mongolia's Gobi Desert which sometimes includes toxic chemical smog emitted by Chinese factories -- usually hits South Korea and Japan in the spring. It can cause respiratory disorders.
In Tokyo, Environment Minister Ichiro Kamoshita recently called on Beijing to disclose data on the yellow sand.

"About yellow sand, I am not quite sure how and why it can be regarded as a national secret," Kamoshita told a press conference last month.
"Air is connected beyond national borders, and yellow sand travels beyond borders. I think it is important we share information," he said...
