Postman Fights For Facial Fuzz

Postby Mulboyne » Thu Jul 17, 2008 3:01 am

[floatr]Image[/floatr]AFP: Japanese postman fights for moustache
Japanese lawyers are rallying behind a postman whose boss told him he had to shave off his moustache to comply with grooming standards for letter carriers. The bar association in the western city of Osaka said Wednesday that the order against 55-year-old postman Noboru Nakamura was "irrational" and violated his human rights. "Having a moustache is part of an individual lifestyle and should be an individual decision," said Kazuo Okawa, a lawyer for the bar association. Nakamura has kept a moustache since 1990. His conflict with his superiors started after Japan Post introduced new grooming regulations in 2004. "I have taken care to keep my moustache neat and I don't think I make my customers feel uncomfortable," Nakamura was quoted by the Asahi Shimbun as saying. "Some of my colleagues had to shave their faces against their will. I can't accept that," he said. Many Japanese consider moustaches and beards to be uncouth, but facial hair has recently seen a boom among fashion-conscious men. A Japan Post spokesman said he could not comment on the case.

Good for him! I hope he wins his case. I hate when people try to impose their ideas of what is good grooming on others. That has happened a lot in corporate USA with people of color, not just African Americans.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

I hope he loses. He could be hiding my mail in there! It's a slippery slope, too. If they allow moustaches, then who's to say they won't allow beady eyes next?

Well he's got my support!

The hairless men out there with beard envy have been plotting against the bearded man for all too long!

I too suffered beard discrimination once when I was told that I would be considered for a job if I were to shave my beard!

Well I stuck it to them good, for all my kind, by saying "I'll think about it" and then I never called back again! muahaha cop that beard-nazis!

Great thought, after reading your post, I went straight home and blamed my last case of Roppongi crabs on the mailman and the wife bought it!
