Van Rental Company Swears In Japanese

[floatr]Image[/floatr]Cairns.com: Wicked gets rude in Japanese
BUDGET rental company Wicked is under fresh attack over an offensive slogan written in Japanese and plastered over one of its vans. The slogan reads: "Lick my ...." and was interpreted for The Cairns Post by several Japanese people. Cairns.com.au reader Mark sent a photograph of the van to the website after his Japanese wife spotted it parked in their street in the Cairns suburb of Bayview while driving their eight-year-old daughter to school. "It's terrible. If you walked around in a T-shirt with that written on it in English, you would be arrested," he said. His said he and his wife had tried to stop their daughter, who can read Japanese, from seeing the van, which was parked in the street for several days before leaving overnight...Wicked was condemned last month by Premier Anna Bligh and other authories after a van was spotted carrying the slogan "Save a whale - harpoon a Jap"...more...

Maybe it's just the owner's name: "Rick, Mike Hunt".

They could have gotten more mileage and less flak with a pop culture reference like "lip my stockings."

Could you really be arrested for wearing a T-shirt like that in Australia?

Of course, black Jap right-winger vans blaring offensive slogans are perfectly fine 'cos the Japanese language is too sophisticated for barbarian foreigners to comprehend, right?

However, I think they should re-consider their "Save a Whale, Harpoon a Jap" slogan. It's simply not polite. Oughta read:

"Save a Whale, Harpoon a Jap, please"

How could you get arrested in Australia? Isn't Australia a penal colony? Don't you end up there after you're arrested?

Wicked update

Postby LiviaL » Mon Aug 25, 2008 7:02 am

THE Australian Attorney General and police will launch an investigation into Wicked Vans after complaints the budget rental company has gone too far by painting a highly offensive slogan in Japanese on one of its vans.

The slogan on a Cairns hire van reads: "Lick my . . . . " and was interpreted for The Weekend Post by several Japanese people who now live in the tourist city.
