Yeah, this story is a bit unfair, those conditions don't strike me as less sanitary than Tsukiji.

Ham & High: Shocking sushi snaps raise hygiene worries
HYGIENE inspections in Golders Green have come under the spotlight this week after a sushi chef was caught preparing fish for an exclusive restaurant out by the bins. A worker from Eat Tokyo on North End Road was caught slicing a blue fin tuna in a rubbishfilled alleyway...Labour councillor Kath McGuirk says the lack of inspection is a growing concern..."There are problems around that road. There are some rat traps set up around the back and that alley is known to have problems with rats. It is concerning this is happening there"...Ravenscroft Avenue Residents Association Chairman Barry Alexander said: "I have just got off the phone from my wife who asked if I want sushi for lunch, which is quite worrying. "That alley is disgusting compared to the shiny frontages of the shops. It really is appalling...
...A spokesman for Barnet Council said: "Following an allegation of unhygienic practices at Eat Tokyo restaurant in North End Road, Golders Green, on Thursday, the council's environmental health officers investigated immediately. "The owners of the establishment insisted that pictures taken of food being prepared outside were a one-off and gave assurances it would not be repeated. They were warned by our officers and instructed of the legal requirements for hygienic food preparation. However, we will keep this restaurant under close observation to ensure these practices are not repeated." Eat Tokyo's Tatsuo Tanabe said the photos made the incident look worse than it really was. He said: "It was more than five metres away from the bin but the angle of the photo made it look closer. But there is no excuse for it and it only happened once. "The tuna weighed more than 130kg so there was no room to cut it inside. It's legal to cut up fish outside in Japan and the problem is we didn't know the regulations in this country. "We will not be making the same mistake again."

WBALTV.com: Sushi Restaurant Owners Sentenced On Immigration Charges
The owner of the popular Kawasaki restaurants was sentenced to a five-month prison term for knowingly hiring illegal workers. The owner, his wife and a business partner have also paid $700,000 in restitution and will pay the same amount in back taxes. Tzu Ming Yang, 48, must also serve three years probation, including five months home on detention. "I'm very sorry for what happened," Yang said in U.S. District Court on Wednesday. "I know I broke the law, but I felt I had no choice." His business partner, Jack Chang, was sentenced to three years probation, including 10 months on home confinement. Yang's wife, Jui Fan Lee Yang, was given a sentence of two years probation. The restaurateurs each must complete between 50 and 100 hours of community service. In April, Tzu Yang and Chang pleaded guilty to harboring immigrants and money laundering. Yang's wife pleaded guilty to a related misdemeanor charge. Prosecutors described the downtown restaurant as a place where illegal immigrants worked for low wages and lived upstairs in filthy conditions - including a lack of running water and a broken toilet - while diners below consumed some of Baltimore's best sushi...more...
