Working In Japan Makes You Sick

Postby Mulboyne » Mon Dec 08, 2008 3:45 pm

Telegraph: Japan is least healthy place in the world to work
Japan is home to the highest rates of employees suffering from work-related health problems, according to a new global survey. As many as three in five Japanese workers complain that they have become ill or unhealthy as a result of workplace grievances. This was significantly higher than the 19 per cent of workers globally who have suffered from work-related ill health, according to the study by recruitment firm Kelly Services. Overworking has emerged as an acute problem in modern day Japan, which even has a word - karoshi - for death from overworking. Japan also has a high rate of work-related fatalities. While Japan topped the poll in terms of the nation of workers with the most work-related health problems, following closely behind was Canada, according to the poll. Both Japan and Canada are among the nations with the lowest minimum annual holiday leave – only ten days a year - which is significantly lower than most other countries. The healthiest places to work emerged as New Zealand, India and Australia, home to the fewest complaints of work-related ill health...more...

But then, it's just people that 'complain' about work.

India

I'm going to have to go with Guy Jean and say that sounds a bit suspicious.

I think Japan ranks so low because it's a nation full of fucking pussies and hypochondriacs.

I don't know about the latter, but the former has kept me here for many years, without even giving the slightest thought to disease.

Unfortunately this means that you are a bedridden patient of rehabilitation facility.
And the fact that there are many pussies in Japan is exactly the reason why many asiaphiles like Samurai-Jerk or kusaijiji come to this island one after another

It's actually not just the number of pussies Take, it's the number of unsatisfied pussies. If you want to do something about the average pussy-chasing gaijin I suggest you start figuring out how to keep j-women satisfied. ;)

I suppose you're probably right there Take-chan, but you might wanna make that a "hardworking" bedridden patient.....

Hah!
One of the reasons I like hanging out here is that you all often give voice to my unverbalized thoughts.

It's the nature of Resident Ronin's job to occasionally work a 12-13 hour day (not a high-stress job, he just has to stay awake and function). It's the nature of my job, which involves a lot of creative thinking, to occasionally pull an all-nighter to make an impossible deadline.

When I'm done, the stress is over, and I'm just happy to crawl into a warm corner and crash. When he's done, he drinks himself into unconcousness, then blames next-day stomach problems on "work stress".
Yeah, right.

Also, on MIXI and other J-SNS sites, I get details every time a member gets a sniffle, a rash, a wart, or an "intestinal invasion" - often with photos of the rash or videos of the (eew!!!) still-living invaders. 8-O

Yes, I know there must be a cultural reason for all this, but it's just soo contrary to the "samurai spirit, ganbatte!" hype, ne?

Question - Holiday Leave: Are those 10 days in addition to all the Golden Week, New Year's Week etc. etc. etc. "only in Japan" Holidays?

I got pix of my endoscopy on my fridge. Personally, I feel that my esophagus and duodenum are beautiful. Feel free to come over and view them anytime.

Wow, that sounds good. I'll bring my war surplus 8mm Yashika and some KY jelly, just in case you want to up-date the shots!

And another thing...

Postby kusai Jijii » Wed Dec 10, 2008 11:30 am

why the fuck are Japanese - who love wearing face masks - so fucking incapable of covering their mouths when they sneeze? Especially on public transport?

And...

while we are on the subject, what's with the disarmingly beutiful chicks who look soo fucking hot UNTIL they start snorting snot up their noses? Is it that hard to use a fucking tissue? I mean, they hand them out by the truckload at just about every street corner. Fuck me.

The snot sucking used to be disgusting for me. Now it makes me harder than an Einstein equation. It's like ero kimoi... or something.

Maybe it's the way they swallow the phlegm retrieved from the nasal passages.

Got the answer to that - the first time I blew my nose in public in the company of Resident Ronin, it shocked him no end. When I asked him what the alternative was - like, should I delicately pat it dry on my perfumed flowered sleeve, he said no, that snorting (or running to a bathroom every 2-3 minutes to blow it in private) is the accepted Chrysanthemum way.

I did manage to retrain him, and his nose is now as brazenly uncivilized as the rest of the NY noses. With his friends, though, I still suspect that he snorts (or maybe he pretends that he's throwing up, which I gather is perfectly respectable)

Or maybe this  is more acceptable in polite society?
