In co-host South Korea, both types of toilets are used, but its 10 stadiums are equipped with the Western style toilets only
Once again, S. Korea overtakes Japan on basic logic: who are your customers?
This was really dumb:
Defenders of the traditional style toilet point out that it is not only used in Japan, and variations are common throughout Asia. They also say that toilets whose users squat instead of sitting are more sanitary, and that Western toilets in the stadiums are unlikely to have disposable paper seat covers or disinfectants
Translation: look how lazy we are, now we have to make justifications for our laziness! Plus, that last sentence should read:
since we lazy Japanese officials didn't even think about having western toilets in the stadiums, it is highly unlikely that we were smart enough to provide disposable paper /seat covers or disinfectants
And the final bit of stupidity:
Officials said it would be too much trouble to provide such amenities -- and suggested it would slow things outside the bathrooms at the games.
"It costs money and takes time. You end up waiting long in line," said Kozo Tanaka, a Yokohama City official.
Hmmmm... what is the mostly likely reason that a fight will break out? Long lines at the toilets for drunken hooligans? And I bet those western toilet covers make a far better weapon than fire extinguishers.
Okay, so FIFA has learned it's lesson: don't rely on Japan to host ANYTHING in the future. Better off sending the soccer teams to Camaroon.
