perhaps the "problem" with women wanting to find a "rich husband" is due to the general fact that in japan women are discouraged from gainful employment (the kind that results in advancement and careers) after the age of 25 or so. if japanese women, as a part of society, were taught to depend on themselves rather than the traditional get-married-become-a-housewife sort of thing, they might be willing to approach a partner with more compromise in mind than maximized well-being and financial security.

Sure, women need money - but they also need SEX with someone they know, trust and like! Typically once a month!

Totally agree with you. It is a complex issue though. There is no encouragement from peers or family to be a "career girl" but there is also a lack of real opportunity for women who would be interested in working up the corporate ladder. It is a concrete ceiling they have to bash up against so most just give up in despair and take the marriage path.

There is still not equal pay for equal work in Japan and that pisses off a heap of people who don't feel valued.

I don't doubt that women might feel they have limited options but the sisterhood doesn't speak with one voice any more than men do. Reading about how Jinnai's serial adultery led to the divorce with Norika Fujiwara it's clear that he has been a Class A dickhead but it did occur to me that his female partners were no innocents. It was hardly a secret that Jinnai was married but they had no problems bedding big sister Norika's man. One even describes how she teased him by text message about his wife before heading over to meet him for sex in a hotel. Men can be wifebeaters, adulterers and all-round lousy husbands but there are more than enough examples of women who also have no problem with the collateral damage their actions bring about.
