Broadcaster Blasted For Meat Slapping Sham

[YT]NwiyPUagtn0[/YT]

The scene above is from an NTV programme called "The Sunday NEXT". It shows chefs from Seikoen, a yakiniku restaurant in Ikebukuro, slapping meat on the floor to tenderize it. Japan's netizens immediately began to question whether this could be hygienic given that people were also walking on the floor with their shoes on. It transpires that the chefs usually tenderize the meat on a table and don't do it on the floor at all. However, the director of the segment asked them to do so, telling them it would make a better sound and have a stronger visual impact. Critics are angry that a broadcaster has once more been caught apparently faking scenes and are calling for an explanation and apology. Mind you, it's not clear why the chefs thought it was OK to be filmed pounding their meat on the floor. If the director had asked them to spit on it, I wonder if they would have done that too?

Interesting...the title reads (Korean chef's 'genuine' yakiniku)
What might a cynic wonder?? Can't trust those Koreans......

If it happened here - I think everyone would jump on the "That's racist" bandwagon.
I broke a mirror this morning, which means I should be getting 7 years of bad luck - but my lawyer says he can get me 5.

Hmmmm, so that's where they got that extra stone ground flavor! Well, as they say FIRE and Salt will kill all the germs.
And I'll bet all of you thought this stuff only happens in 3rd world countries or in the back restaurants of Denny's.:D

A Sankei report (Japanese) says that the restaurant has received an order from the local health centre to revise procedures or face closure. A spokesman has said that they will make sure there is a dedicated surface for tenderizing the meat. It is still unclear whether the restauarant has been always been slapping meat on the floor or whether, as they initially claimed, it was a set-up by the TV show. It seems, however, that people are leaning to the idea that the restaurant may be the guilty party.
