Canon Employees Are Forbidden to Sit Down, Walk at Normal Pace

You might think your job sucks, but at least your boss wasn't insane enough to remove all the chairs and install security so an alarm goes off if you don't walk fast enough.

The president of Canon Electronics, Hisashi Sakamaki ..more ..

You guys.... you need to think out of the box.

Don't fuck around and get Ralph Fiennes one of those classy outfits by Hugo Boss and a Luger sidearm, and hire him to increase productivity right on the factory floor using the trademark "hands on" technique.

Sounds more like a way to cut staff without actually having the balls to outright fire anyone. People quitting because of this bullshit quit "of their own free will".

On the other hand, it also sounds like a good way to make your employees start a labor union, or if they already have one, to wonder WTF the union rep is doing.

Also a good way to get rid of your most talented staff.

But I'd definitely set off that sensor every chance possible, and prove that the alarm cuts productivity by causing everyone to drop what they're doing to see who the "loafer" is.
Then come up with a fake ankle injury and enjoy a workers compensation vacation.

This guy sounds like a real douche but I do like the idea of a desk you can stand at. I hate sitting down all day. One thing I do like about teaching over an office job is being on my feet most of time. That's about it though.

Some jobs require the "worker" to be on their back all day...unheralded workers.:D

I take my pants off to them.
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

awww crap... I kinda loved their cameras and pixus printer.. and scanners...

This kind of bullshit usually kill a company quite fast. If I was a shareholder I'd ask the clown in charge of this clusterfark to resign on the spot.

Makes me happy that I sold all my Canon DSLR gear last year and bought a Nikon D700. :)

Indeed I am! Along with the D700 I have a 17-35/2.8, 24-70/2.8, 70-200/2.8 VR, 105/2.8 Micro VR, 50/1.4 D, 85/1.4 D, and an SB-900. I'm very happy with all of it! :D

Oh damn. When did they have time to design all that stuff? Weren't they stuck in hallways and consumed with getting in and out of pesky chairs? There's gotta be industrial espionage involved here somewhere.

Nikon wipes the floor with Canon when it comes to SLR ergonomics, wide angle lenses, and their flash system. Canon has some very nice primes that Nikon doesn't match well (35/1.4L, 135/2L, 800/5.6L in particular). Some people love Canon's 85/1.2L but just hope to hell that you never need a new USM motor for it, you're looking at 90,000yen.

Canon Employees Are Forbidden to Sit Down, Walk at Normal Pace

Postby Steve Bildermann » Mon Jun 22, 2009 2:53 pm

I was going to title this with some really lame obscure reference to the "Phil Upchurch Combo" but as I am still a 4 year layoff newbie around here I thought it looks like I'm trying too too hard to earn my FG posting chops so here you go with just the facts.

You might think your job sucks, but at least your boss wasn't insane enough to remove all the chairs and install security so an alarm goes off if you don't walk fast enough. In the hallway, if an employee walks slower than 5 meters every 3.6 seconds, an alarm and flashing lights are set off, reminding the poor startled worker that he's an inefficient waste of air.

Yeah you're right. Thanks. I sort thought it was too good a story NOT too have been on FG. It caught my eye because I've always told people how great Canon 'stuff' is.

Ok. This is an official dead thread......nothing to see here move on.
