Good win for the lady and her family.

Sadly no word on any other women held there or what is happening to the brothel.

..and I suppose we're expected to believe the local cops had no idea that there were sex slaves being held in a building next to a brothel in their area, or that the brothel even existed at all!

The J cops could shut all these places down tomorrow and rescue all the women if they wanted to.

Only question is do the cops just let this happen because they're getting bribes, or they're just lazy?

It's the 21st century and shit like this is still going on in Japan?

Mores - Vestigial Racism in Japan

Postby Nadrew » Mon Jun 22, 2009 10:07 am

i'm sure the cops tolerate a certain amount of crime because it is impossible to get it all. therefore it is just a matter of degree - how much and what types of crime are acceptable. in theory - none. reality is that the cops don't work in a vacuum. they have a give and take relationship. in exchange for information and curtailment of the most egregious crimes they are willing to look the other way on some. it's like the yakusa try not to let civilians get caught in the crossfire. makes for an orderly society. everyone is happy, right?

now, if some japanese thought that non-japanese were basically non-human (not saying that this is the case), you could see where they naturally wouldn't equate sexual slavery as any sort of human rights abuse. it might even be something to be considered "tolerable" seeing as it is mainly non-japanese involved. and since it is mainly non-japanese involved, it doesn't effect ordinary civilians.

the japanese don't exactly have a stellar record. perhaps society hasn't really changed that much since WWII. sure, on the surface it has, but the japanese are notoriously slow to adopt change. as anyone who has tried to do a business deal would probably attest. honne and tattamae.

just saying...

I too wonder about the other women at said brothel. will the j-media pick up that story?

Part of the problem lies with the notion of a 'developed nation'. We are always too quick to connect political and legal maturity with technology and infrastructure. Developed is a misnomer in Japan's case.

I can't deny I like the smell of Japan bashing in the morning but to tell the truth the sex slavery industry is flourishing in western Europe and the states. Japan is still stuck in medieval times with regard to sexual offense of all kinds.

You're right but authorities in the West seem to take the problem a lot more seriously.

So... They sent her back to Taiwan in a very public announcement in the international press. Therefore returning her to the boyfriend whose debt to the triad caused her to be sold into sexual slavery in the first place.

I suppose they'll both be either fish food or fertilizer in a couple of days to a week or so?

Not at all, she will have the lucky opportunity to resume her recently interrupted profession and begin sucking Taiwan dicks, as opposed to J-dicks, which will be helpful, as it will not be a significant re-training process.

Him, the fellows will probably run through a meat grinder and feed to the guppies for having brought in the girl that caused them some difficulties.

From my experience (law enforcement targeting organized crime) I agree there is more awareness and more civil groups fighting sex slavery in the west than in the far east, but the authorities usually don't give a flying fuck unless there is a good PR opportunity.

Also, if you have a sex case sans violence, or not involving children, you are not going to get a lot of interest from the police, courts, or John Q. Public.

If it were not for the special interests groups there would be no one really pushing for stronger enforcement of any of these so-called "victimless crimes."
