Yomiuri: War-era photos of Osaka puppet shows found
About 600 photographs of bunraku puppet shows put on at Yotsubashi Bunraku-za theater in Osaka shortly before and during the war have been discovered. The photographs, kept by the family of a former public relations worker at the theater, which was destroyed in a bombing raid in 1945, shows puppets dressed in military uniforms and wearing steel helmets, instead of the kimono outfits normally associated with bunraku puppetry...At the theater, which opened in 1930 and specialized in bunraku puppetry, war-related programs were played to give people the will to fight...more...
