The Asahi Shimbun claims it has the country's largest photo archive, with some 2.4 million digital images and a further 4.8 million prints. The paper has announced it will upload the archive to the web from next Spring and will also hook up with Getty Images to sell them worldwide. The website is here. It's not yet clear how much will be available to see for free but if even a fraction of those images make it to a searchable database of thumbnails and watermarked larger images then there ought to be some interesting material.
