That is irrelevant. I only asked a friend because you would not take my word for it.

Gaisaradatsuraku! wrote:Nope, it sure ain't if the above is anything to go by. You are only successful in comparison to what you would have been in the states. Which is nothing by the way. You love it because the Japanese countryside is one place where even the most pathetic loser can feel special. You love it because it was the first halfway decent place you ever went to. That is why.

Gai, let me once more say that you are an obnoxious cretin. There is no way around it. You live to insult others. This is the only thing that makes you feel good about yourself.

Other than that, you are utterly and totally wrong about me. You don't know me, and nothing you have posted on this forum, nothing, is correct about me. Get that through your thick skull. With each successive "I have you pegged, arkie" comment, you are only emphasizing the fact that you have not learned basic manners and consideration, and that you base your self-worth on the cowardly abuse of other people. Keep it up, if you want. All it does is illustrate my point.

You are a liar.

In addition, you clearly were the first to go ballistic.

You have lost it Charlie. You claimed you were being tactful by not revealing my "mistakes" and that I was only able to prod you into this much later. However, I posted above an obscentity laden quote from you that was far before we got into the Japanese thing. In other words, genius, you were already ranting about everything you could. There was no tact. Furthermore, you have been far more insulting than me. I have basically just been stating my opinion that you are a hillbilly with nothing in the states to have left behind. This is not an insult. This is just an opinion. You have responded by calling me all sorts of names and saying that I am wrong. Come on. There are worse things in the world than being an Arkie. I even said above that I have known some very smart Arkies.

Aoi da is perfectly acceptable Japanese in certain circles. Mainly used among equals. Usually used to express disbelief that it is the color blue or to add emphasis that is IS the color blue.

DA is used to replace DESU in these situations in colloquial situations only. And it is normal usage depending on the local namari/ben.

Omae Nansai is NOT standard feminine usage. Although some women use the "Omae" form, it is usually used by women in the form of "Omae-san" when speaking to their husband. Or by young women in gang situations when speaking to other women. But this is almost never used and used sparingly. usually women use Anta.

You are stringing together two unrelated things in desperation. I did not say I was tactful to you the whole time, I said I was tactful about not commenting about your Japanese. If you would reread the comment (where have I said this before, hmm?), and not selectively read this time, you would know this.

That is most definitely not an opinion, but an insult. If I made a similar comment about you, you would respond as if I had insulted you, and you cannot deny it.

I don't care what you think about "Arkies." I am not one, and calling me one is an insult. You are presuming to be able to judge me because of where I live, which is plain silly. All you know about me, and all you will ever know, is what I type here. If you had any manners, you would not insist that you know more than that ("I have you pegged"), and then use that fantasy to attempt to insult me.

I'm sorry, but I would like to disagree. My intuition, based on what I have heard in the past, and double-checked with a native recently, is that one should say simply "aoi" when not using "desu," because "da" would be grammatically incorrect after an adjective. "Aoi no" or "aoi no da" (or the colloquial "aoi n da") is also possible, because the "no/n" substitutes for a noun, however this has a slightly different connotation. As for dialects, that is a possibility, but nothing else Gai wrote was in dialect, so it is unlikely in this particular case. Also, the meaning of aoi that Gai was using was not "blue" the color but "green" in the sense of "inexperienced."

Before we have another long discussion about this, I would like to suggest that we carefully reconfirm this with a native and check a book on Japanese grammar usage concerning "da" after an adjective. I will triple-check it also.

I know this, and I have said the same thing you are pointing out now. You would see that if you check.

I an not a native, but "aoi da" is not the polite replacement of "aoi desu". You can say "aoi" in familiar speech, or say "ao da" (as most colors turn to nouns when you drop the "i").

Easy mistake to make...
