This isn't going to cut any ice for folks in DC...There are probably at least 20 military bases of one form or another within 15 miles of DC and there are constant low level helicopter flights by various military and federal agencies over the metro DC area as well as constant jet traffic from Andrews.

(they didn't spring for color in the newspaper)

I just looked at the ad and both the composition and message is weak. The layout isn't that interesting (flipping through it cold, given its generic barbed wire iconography I would have peripherally scanned it as a pro Palestinian or anti Israel ad) and the message is fairly muted focusing on how they don't want or need a new US base. Reading it, I thought, OK then I guess the US should stay at Futenma then rather than moving it.

Overall, the full page COLOR ad for EADS's bid for new US military fuel tanker aircraft was much more engaging in the front section that day.
