Mysterious Death Of Anti-Yakuza Lawyer

Postby Mulboyne » Tue Aug 31, 2010 10:16 pm

The news that lawyer Toshiro Igari committed suicide in Manila was always going to raise questions given that he took a prominent role in opposing mobsters. Igari helped bring about an investigation into yakuza infiltration of baseball. Police in the Philippines say it looked like suicide because his wrists were cut but his friends have said he had no reason to take his own life and had even spoken about buying a bulletproof vest just before his death. He also has a book about his experiences as a prosecutor and lawyer due out next month. ZakZak reports (Japanese) there are calls for a full investigation into his death.

Why do I feel like the outcome of the investigation would have been the same had he been found in Tokyo no matter how much better the CSI's in Japan are than the ones in the PI?

Kind of reminds me of some stories my grandfather told about being a pathologist in the American South before the Civil Rights Movement. He said there was one case where they examined the body of a black man that had obviously been bound to a chair and stabbed repeatedly in the chest. But no matter what he and the other doctors said the police insisted on ruling it a suicide.

sad to say, this may be the same outcome as you had stated...

the yaks have a lot of power in japan, so much to where you don't even know it.

They previously had a lot of power in the PI, but I don't know about now. Actually, it doesn't take much there. Just an intro to the right fella and for next to nothing, he will dust up nicely for you (Floors there have been known to get covered with teeth, hair and eyeballs rather easily).....
