... In Friday's solemn ceremony, Buddhist monks in purple robes chanted sutras in front of a candle-lit, brocade-draped altar adorned with a golden replica of a pachinko machine.

Is purple the God of Gambling's colour? If there is such a deity, shouldn't it have an appropriate tint like neon pink, lime green or shiny silver?

Pink and lime green with purple sounds very wabi-sabi to me.

Damn, if I know.
I have seen the Shinto ceremony for "Bent Sewing Needles" and several for "Old Dolls" and "Old Teddy Bears." And of course their is the "One-Eyed Smith Beating his 'Sword'" he, he, at the Kawasaki Fertility Festival narrated by our own Rob Pongi.

They should invent Viagra for Pachinko machines so they can get another decade or so of service out of those balls ...
