Those LDPetards probably could not dig up these scandals without the able collusion and assistance of the government bureaucracy.

As scandals go, this one was a typhoon in a thimble.

I think it came back to bite the alligators in the ass. The original allegation sounds great: "Foreign Minister accepts FG money." Then when the details game out that it was an old zainichi obachan that has been his friend and fan for years and it only totaled out a a couple hundred US in value, there was an immense back-lash.

Next, even though he didn't have to go, Maehara astutely makes a forced break from the Cabinet and quits. He comes out looking good and still remains pretty, while in line to make a later run for PM in the future. Meanwhile, the finger pointers are left standing there fondling their short arms, wondering how they ended up getting cornhauled on the play....

Errr, the option for families that consist of members from more than one nation to give their kids dual citizenship?

They can. The children have to choose when they reach the age of majority. Plenty of Western liberal democracies have the same rule.

A high-ranking foreign ministry official will become Japan's new top diplomat, after his predecessor resigned over the weekend for accepting illegal political donations, the government announced Wednesday.

State Secretary Takeaki Matsumoto will be promoted to foreign minister later Wednesday, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said. He will replace Seiji Maehara, who stepped down Sunday for receiving political donations from a foreigner, which is prohibited in Japan.

The government moved quickly to replace Maehara, who served in the post for just six months. His sudden resignation was a blow to Prime Minister Naoto Kan's beleaguered government, which is facing public approval ratings below 20 percent. ......

Remember that LDPer Yasuo Fukuda was busted on accepting a 200,000 yen from a North Korean. He gave the money back and all was forgiven and forgotten. This was a few years after being busted for not paying pension and ended up resigning his position as Chief Cabinet Secretary. Ditto.
