Gendai.net has an article (Japanese) which says that the disaster has not only increased the willingness of women to look for wedding partners but has also decreased the desire for adulterous sex. A rent-a-quote psychologists suggest that adultery is sometimes driven by a desire for out of the ordinary experiences. Since the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear power plant problems are all extraordinary events, people have reacted by seeking normality again. Also, as a larger number of single women ostensibly become more serious about marrying, they are less likely to be interested in hooking up with married men so the opportunities for extra-marital hanky panky decline. The article says the way many of the same men made a special effort to head home on the day of the quake indicates that they may also have been temporarily inclined to put family first. The psychologist speculates that this mood may continue until the situation at Fukushima looks to be under control and Gendai says this is probably not good news for the love hotel industry.
