Can you imagine scaling the mountain with only your arms to power you? No wonder it took him 3 days.

Yep Taro - I have seen you move around pretty quickly on those crutches of yours.. it is even better when you have been drinking!!!

My 65 year old second cousin is here in Japan at the moment - he and his group have just climbed Fuji-san from the lakes and then from the first station. It was a charity fund raising thing.. these people are all mad - last year they rode bicycles down the Nile. They climbed from first station to 5th station on the first day, camped overnight and then from 5th station to the top the next day. He had no trouble doing it - even after 2 heart attacks!!

Dang.
While climbing Fuji-san (in the typhoon mind you) I was routinely passed by Japanese folks in their 80s.

Reading that article tho.....Something struck me....

A brain dead low level Japanese official with a little bit of power when faced with the unexpected is about as easy to deal as a blind donkey.

Cant see shit and stubborn as hell.

Damn, Taro, it took me more than 7 hours to go up and my legs are fully functional. Guess I'm just a wuss--but I've been working out to improve on that time (in a theoretical sense, since I doubt I would ever make the ascent again).

Most likely it was the same "safety ranger" detained me for 2 hours...until I was rescued by a couple of PTs from Camp Zama running the Fuji trail who promised "OMBU" me piggyback up to the top. They carried me (88kg) all of 20 meters out of sight of Ranger Danger, ha, ha.

AP article wrote: The 22-year-old [gimp] soon ran into problems-- a safety ranger on the trail stopped him and the eight members of his support team.

"He sort of freaked out when he saw us," Reilly told The Associated Press by mobile phone from the mountain. "He had never seen an arm bike before and he really didn't know what to do. He didn't want to let us pass. I really thought we were going to have to go back down."

After an eight-hour delay, however, Reilly and his supporters persuaded the ranger to relent.
