If you remove the twice daily mail to check who is still prime minister for the next 6 hours, that don't make that much remaining for strategeric stuff like... humm... dealing with drunk sailors rampage issues...

Probably a lot of eye rolling about incompetent DPJ politicians. I suspect most of the Japanese public would agree at this point...

Political Parties...in America it's a choice between the Gambinos and the Genovese, in Japan it's between Dopey and Sleepy.

And all the members of Sleepy are former members of Dopey. Or is it the other way around?

Not sure which way around it is but "former members" is a bit kind, I prefer "rejects" for most of them.

too weak to make something work, yet strong enough to destroy it

Article in today's Japan Times about the Wikileak info:
China last year criticized Japan's focus on the abductions of its citizens by Pyongyang in the 1970s and 1990s as an obstacle to progress in the six-party talks on denuclearizing North Korea, according to U.S. diplomatic cables recently released by online whistle-blower WikiLeaks.
A Chinese official told the acting U.S. ambassador in June 2009 that Japan's "obsession with the abduction issue reminded him of a Chinese expression for an individual who was too weak to make something work, yet strong enough to destroy it," according to a confidential diplomatic cable dated June 16.

I like that expression, although it could apply to about 99% of the people in government, both in Japan and elsewhere.
I have a blog. Last update: August 18, 2013.

Well, if they are covering the period from 2006 to 2009 it is likely to have a lot more stuff causing eye rolling to be directed towards the incompetent LDP politicians. It will be interesting to see to what degree the media reports the foibles of leading members of the opposition when they were governing.

My guess is that being the Japanese press, they won't.

First Tokyo Embassy Cables Released

Postby joshuaism » Wed Jan 05, 2011 4:48 am

Wikileaks released three cables from the Tokyo Embassy on New Years Day (here, here, and here).

Looks like wikileaks wants to focus on Japanese whaling practices (and maybe bury any coverage in the Japanese presses considering the release date). A cable from DC concerning Japanese whaling was released the same day (here). So the initial reports deal with US urging the GOJ to kill fewer whales and the GOJ urging the US to investigate Sea Shepherd.
