kino wrote:Irrelevant to the conversation. I'm not comparing the security of Linux vs. Windows. I'm telling you about software that can reduce your exposure to malware on Windows. Please stay on topic. Although I did enjoy that not-so-subtle attempt to turn this into an OS flame war. Nice try.
kino wrote:Did you personally assess every binary installed on your Linux distro for security vulnerabilities? Did you review every single line of code? No, of course not. So stop the holier than thou act. You use untrusted software day in and day out.
kino wrote:Great. A fucking fanboy. Your type gets so tiring. Listen, in the real world, people often use more than one OS. Enterprise networking environments are heterogeneous. My advice was directed at people who use Windows and might welcome a new method for securing their systems. I wasn't shitting all over your favorite operating system, so chill out.
kino wrote:Besides, even if you are VMing your Windows machine, you still need to secure guest machine.
kino wrote:The correct word is "whose". It is clear that you don't want to install it. I get that. But try to stick to the evidence. The only reason you have to disparage it is an irrational hatred for Windows and a dislike for the various accolades it has received.

THE TOPIC IS ABOOT LOVE HOTEL YOU PATRONIZING MORON
There is no need for that, there is meanwhile the possibility to do it, that's what some other people do... who can then report bugs... who can then be fixed...
I think you might want to come back when you reach puberty, simple check, look down there, when it get's hairy you can comeback, it's not Digg here, dismissing people as fanboys is not a instant thread winning argument.
And you are promoting a shareware hack for sandboxing on windows 7 ?
Windows -anything- for task where you require some safety is like that 10 $ hooker at the corner in Johanesbourg... a big gamble.

Are you somehow blood related to greji ?
kino wrote:Pure argument form ignorance. I, Coligny, don't know how to make it secure, so it must be insecure. Your belief that Windows is inherently insecure, that it is a "big gamble" to use Windows on a day-to-day basis, is just pure unadulterated ignorance.

Yeah sure... blow me....
Still have big smile on my face to remember when i was called back a friday evening to change all the passwords and lock his accounts... I think he's fixing bicycles for a living now...
BTW, remember kids... the greasemonkey script for ignored users works wonder...

Golden advice gents!

Windows is like a screen door on a submarine: It lets in all sorts of shit you don't want. Sure you can make it secure, but the time and effort you take to do it could be better spent, especially in a corporate environment.
And you're arguing with a Frenchman. English is not his native language.

kino wrote:If you want to criticize someone's recommendation for software, do it on the merits. I'm not telling you to use Windows. I'm not saying that Windows is more secure than Linux. I'm saying that there is a tool that can help you mitigate the risk of malware on Windows. Use it if you will and understand the risks.
nikoneko wrote:No it's why the smart ones of us in IT never got jobs supporting windows.
Agree with this part though, many people have to use windows and though I have been an apple/unix user for over 30 years (first was ][+ in the 1st grade), if you are gonna go MS at least do it safely. The analogy of fucking a whore with bleeding sores all over her body without a condom does come to mind...
