This one deserved to go.
And after only 9 days as reconstruction minister.
He acted like a complete asshole in both Iwate and Miyagi, and that's before he even visited the disaster areas.

What a prick.
Good riddance.

So what exactly were the "offensive" remarks made? Although I don't doubt the jist of this article, it would be interesting to know precisely what was said that set off the outcry.

EDIT: He definitely sounds like an asshat from the article, but I'm just fishing for further particulars...

It was quite a fast turnaround...

Thank you.

Well, there it is...your link does well to properly vilify an insensitive, tactless idiot. It only begs the question, who the f*ck vets these people before appointing them to a Cabinet-level post?

Vetting here? Hahaha! Nice one!

I'm sure that the inhabitants of a small planet in a far away galaxy have asshat politicians, too. They're as constant as gravity. But, Planet Japan does have some whoppers.

Some people are trying to pass Matsumoto's actions off as "hard love," but no matter what the intent, he managed to piss all of Miyagi prefecture off in one fell swoop and deserves what he got.

To me (and most other people, apparently) it just looked as though he was far more concerned with asserting his own power and authority than doing any real reconstruction at all.

But anyway, subsequent analysis reveals that Murai actually has seniority in this case, so Matsumoto was blowing smoke out his ass.

I wonder how long it'll be before his remarks are attributed to his lineage.

Finally Kan got something right. He appointed an upper house member from Iwate, somebody who has knowledge of the area and probably knows most of the people involved, and just might be able to get something done. Why he picked that douche bag from Kyushu is beyond me. But just watching that video made me want to punch him in the face, what a pure and simple idiot.

Yeah, a governor has more power than a cabinet official.

A cabinet member is nothing more than a facilitator.

It might have been a set up from the start. The guy was a prick and what better way than to let them hang themselves. Murai might have done that on purpose and dude imploded immediately as opposed to a few weeks or months.

Kinda strikes me as an archetypically Japanese reaction....30,000+ dead, leaking toxic radiation that will turn everyone in the cuntry into Troma movie characters, half the northern coast of the cuntry obliterated, riven with debt, feeble politicians. How do you react? Forceful leadership, action, decisiveness? Fuck that...let's just belittle a guy in front of the nation's media by refusing to shake his hand and then berating him for not turning up before you do. This in turn switches the media's focus onto what an idiot you are instead of getting it to play watchdog and do something to force a fix in the situation.
Japan is in a state of autocopulation.

The way this cuntry's going, we're gonna have to change the name of this site to blessedgaijin.com

Indeed, just look at this:

Offering his resignation, the minister blamed his indelicate behaviour on the fact he is blood type B - tapping into the popular Japanese belief that blood types dictate personality traits. His departure is the latest blow to the prime minister Naoto Kan, who had hoped that Mr Matsumoto's appointment would deflect further criticism about his handling of the crisis.

Mr Matsumoto made his controversial comments at the weekend during his first trip as minister to the disaster-hit northeast region of Japan. He expressed frustration that he was made to wait for Yoshihiro Murai, the governor of Miyagi, and subsequently refused to shake his hand upon arrival.

Instead, he said: "When a guest comes to visit, do not call up the guest until you have arrived in the room. Do you understand?" After scolding the governor, Mr Matsumoto, 60, turned to journalists in the room and told them it was off the record, saying that if anyone reported his words their company would be finished.

Let's show the world what a bunch up uptight, inflexible, power tripping assholes we can be and then try to play down the adverse reaction to it and blame it on superstitious bullshit about out blood type. Shoganai ne!

Any FG that has worked at a Japanese company has seen this shit before. Oh the tantrums I've seen over someone showing up 5 minutes late. One company I worked with, I repeatedly saw the pres. physically kick and beat his employees for even the smallest mistakes. :shake:
