I was curious about this too. Since we will write about this in our rag here in Seattle I got a hold of the court records.omae mona wrote:Huh? Or did this come out in 2011 based on a 13 year old's memory of something that happened when she was 6? Something doesn't make sense with this news story. Does anybody get it? (maybe I am having trouble with my reading comprehension skills again).
If he did it, may he burn in hell. On the other hand, if this is one of the many cases of children "remembering" false memories, then god help him... he's screwed if he gets extradited.

Watanabe was arrested upon re-entry into LAX in November 2010, but a judge let him go free after his company requested his release.
Watanabe vanished for nearly six years -- until he resurfaced at Los Angeles International Airport in late November 2010, right around Thanksgiving. He used his real name to enter the country and was promptly arrested on the original charges of child rape and child molestation.
Pentel, Mr. Watanabe's employer at the time, wrote a letter to the judge. Therein, they requested his release due to his status as an essential employee to their international offices. Pentel executives guaranteed the judge that they "will make sure Mr. Watanabe appears at court in Washington State." The reason for requesting his release is "because he has high responsibility to manage and run our group company, Indo Japan Pen Mfg" in India.
The judge was convinced and allowed Pentel to post Watanabe's $50,000 bail. In addition, not only did the judge grant Watanabe's freedom, but he allowed him to retain his passport, traveling throughout the world as he pleases.
Upon his release, Watanabe promptly fled the country on Jan. 28, 2011.
Two months later, on March 29, Watanabe was a no-show for his case setting hearing in a King County, Wash., courtroom. He was immediately hit with a $2 million warrant for failure to appear.
As of April 2011, cops tell AMW that Watanabe is still the Managing Director of Indo Japan Pen Mfg., and his job requires him to travel between the United States, India and Japan.
While the girl cops say Watanabe molested is now an adult, she was devastated to hear of his release, and desperately wants him to pay for his crimes.
If you know where Daisuke Watanabe is hiding, you've got to call our Hotline right away at 1-800-CRIME-TV. Remember: You can remain anonymous.

omae mona wrote:I assume the U.S. would have tried to get him extradited from Japan between 2005-2010, right?
omae mona wrote:But what on earth was a judge doing granting bail to a foreign national, who had already gone missing for 5 years? Especially when his country is known for their "there's not anything we can do" stance when it comes to enforcing law related to what they consider private family matters.
