I was waterboarded during Survial Training and didn't die. It sure as hell ain't torture and a lot less than others have been through. Yanked out fingernails, smashed balls, electric current to the Ped of the Hecker, etc.

my friends from the embassy always make jokes about water boarding... i asked them if that was how they torture people that make mistakes in the embassy and they said, "That's not torture... that is just the step before you get written up"...

In further conversation about water boarding, a few of them said that there were many other things that you can do to someone that is a lot worse (completely obvious... I R not retarded) and to go ask one of the Marines at the gate if I wanted to know more.

I asked my buddy who was a scout in the Persian gulf war about torture once, and he said he started by their fingers and toes then worked their way to the family jewels and eye lids... he said that he couldn't spend that much time with them and finished them up and went to the next lucky guy...

I have never been water boarded before... but I would rather have that done compared to other stuff... I would rather not experience it when going to the koban either...

looks like i need to keep a water proof pen on me so i can lend it to the jiji cop when i get questioned next time... good thing i got a whole box of them at my place...

If you're going to get really technical, all the techniques used in non-Geneva interrogations are torture.


Sleep deprevation? Torture.
Having lights on 24-7 and obnoxious sounds played non-stop are enough to drive you nuts.

Stress positions? Torture. Anyone who has been through a formal work enkai in seiza for 30 minutes plus knows this, and the positions they use are worse.

Staged executions or faked torture? Also torture. The fear is often worse than the actual pain.

If waterboarding is the absolute worst thing we do, I'd say were not that bad so long as it's used in extreme last resorts only. Like some real Jack Bauer NCIS LOS ANGELES shit.

Torture is a scale. Or a spectrum. You know, like autism. But water boarding is on the shy nerdy type side of the scale compared to some forms of torture.

That said, history shows that simple friendly conversation or using psychological tricks are far more effective in getting quality intel. IE, in WW2 the commander of a German POW camp would go on walks with a captured British officer who let slip during conversation that British fighter guns fire all tracer rounds when they run low on ammo to let the pilot know.

I dunno, it seems like torture is a way of showing extreme contempt for your enemy, almost like you want to rub your hate in their face, so to speak. I realize I could be way off base, but I get the feeling it's sending a big "don't fuck with us" vibe to the wider enemy at large...as in you want everyone to know you're doing it.
