You also have wonder about Yokohama Bay Hall. Though I know they're connected to the Yaks. At least they were about twelve years ago when I worked a party there.

I guess what is so disconcerting about the whole thing is that even if people stood up (there is money to be made in that business, as well as taxes) nothing would ever change. Anyone know when the fuzoku laws were revised?

The 'latest' one. I'm assuming these laws are ancient, relatively speaking.

Hoboy, that weighty "no dancing after 1:00 AM" law is really relevant in this day and age, innit!

What’s with the police purge on dance clubs?
The Japan Times / 2013Apr07 by Jake Adelstein
If you’re ever minded to dance the night away to trance music, or even old-fashioned rock, you may have a tough time finding a venue in Japan these days. In fact, you may end up waltzing away hours inside a police station, peeing into a cup after being rounded up in a raid. Yes, indeed, a War on Dance is raging...
..
. So why would dancing at a club after midnight miraculously transform into a threat to public welfare? Do dancers morph into rampaging werewolves as the clock strikes midnight?
There is no logical answer.
One unofficial answer a senior police officer gave was: "It’s much easier to raid a dance club on violations of the AELs than it is to get a warrant for a drug search..."

I fully support the right for japan to become the most boring shithole on earth...

(nothing worse than compiling a kernel* at 4am while being disturbed by junky-drunktard-ravers vomitting noisily in the streets)

(* seriously... I'm getting old, who still compile kernels ? haven't done that in years...)

Gas Panic bar in Roppongi busted over dancing
The Tokyo Reporter | 2013/July/23
...
officers entered club GP Bar, which is located in the Roppongi entertainment district of Minato Ward, and arrested manager Takuya Muratani, 30, and disc jockey Yu Imamura, 33, for allegedly allowing dancing without a license...Both suspects have reportedly admitted to the allegations: “The customers raise their hands at random (to the music),” the manager is quoted. “That does not mean we are forcing them to dance.”

That shit always cracks me up....

It’s much easier to raid a dance club on violations of the AELs than it is to get a warrant for a drug search. Dance clubs are hotbeds of drug activity.

TIJ, rather than do things in a legit manner, loopholes and outdated laws are the weapons of choice for crime fighting.

Would be easier (and way cheaper/efective) to just patrol the area with a few drug sniffing dogs...but image is obviously much more important than performance

Well dogs don't care who has the drugs - they will pick them out on anybody - not JUST the people the police want to catch them with.

Is this too cynical?

I never understood the reasoning behind naming an overcrowded club bar "Gas Panic." Especially after the Aum attack.

FWIW, the bar preceded the attack, but as I was quaffing on a Pocari Sweat while chowing down on a Crunky Ball Nude and nibbling some Salty Nuts, I began to see where you were coming from....

LOL, I get that...but for "We Japanese..." that claim to be so sensitive, it seems pretty ridiculous. I'd get lynched if I tried to open up a club in the US called "Falling tower terror."
