Sorry, but since there are kids on this forum, explanashiun of the reference:

In fact if you mix "The prisoner" and "Doomwatch" into a single TV show, you get "The X-Files"

So, now the J-population will have to carry a non-alien registration card with a number?

Is that half of the morons will consider it a top secret token that you only know and therefore can be used for any secure transaction as and authentication token. (like the email password reset safety question asking for your birthdate... WAY TO GO PEOPLE...)
While the other half will ask for it for hotel or restaurant reservation, printing tshirts, put it with your name on your luggage and so on...

What do they do in France? (srs question) Never had any problems with my US SSN being stolen or whatever but the only time it ever really gets used is for taxes and loan/credit/bank account applications. Retards keeping it written on slips of paper with their full name, addy, and pin #'s are asking for a Darwin bitchslap.

I am not a name I'm a number and I do not know how to use commas and I use contractions inconsistently and I have a barcode tattooed on the back of my neck like Henry Rollins so I do not need another number thank you you're welcome.

Social Security number is to be disclosed to employer who have the duty to keep it confidential (I/E not a public data) Pharmacist, Doctors, Insurance companies (yours personnal one), health provider plus nationnal health care. Everybody else can basically go fook themselves and have no legal right to even ask if you have one.

So it's a unique ID. But with a strictly defined purpose.

And it's a bit of a catch 22.
Since few institutions can ask for it, it's a somewhat secret number.
AND
Just health related institution need it so 'publishing' it would not be really troublesome. (since you need you nationnal ID card name+picture and you social security card name+number to be correctly identified).

(it's some sort of 'security by futility')

Thirdly the system is mostly pay first, get reimbursed after, unless you have a private insurance who pay for you and ask to the social security to be reimbursed (then you got a third card from the insurance company, which are usually company wide and cost pennies). So even making a fake ID card and a fake social security card (computer checked at every use) would not get you really far, unless you rooted also the central server to give him YOUR bank account number... But that make a lot of work with a near 100% chance to get caught for just the money back from a prostate exam...

The majority of stolen SSN's are from the dead. You are fine until you die.

good idea giving everyone a number... easy to keep track of. no need to get all superficial about getting a number... gotta keep record some how.

mind you, that putting this on an ID card with your picture, address, etc. is a good thing for the loan sharks... yaks will be rollin in dough and kickin the shit out of people in no time...

your SSID card in the US is a piece of paper... very bland... just your number and name? why? so you can rip that shit up and burn it when you memorize your number. only time I ever needed that card was when I went to MEPS... (failed the eye exam BTW)

online system? pray to the royal family that Sony isn't manning that one... japan moving a step forward, but already pivoting their feet to take a few steps back.

Went to get my license redone when I was in the states over Xmas. Of course, they asked for my original card. As I was waiting to get it printed with my father, he busted out his wallet and showed me his original... that he received in 1958. WTF, dad.

As I left I asked the lady, "is it still just a piece of paper?" So stupid.
