News that police had discovered a 1.5m shark carcass in Yoyogi Park soon caught the attention of Japan's netizens. Some quickly noted it was similar to one seen outside a kaiten sushi joint in Shibuya called Daidokoya. It seems the restaurant had got hold of the shark intending to put it on display inside. The innards had ben removed and it wasn't rotting. It was larger than anticipated, however, and so they stuck it outside. This wasn't a great solution so the restaurant decided to dump it. A foreign man, who described himself as an artist, heard they were planning a disposal and offered to take it off their hands, suggesting he might be able to find some use for it. He turned up with a trolley to collect the shark and eyewitnesses saw him pushing it along the road. Some took photos and the one above was widely retweeted after the news broke. No-one knows whether the man decided to ditch it himself but, if he did, he could be liable to a charge of illegal dumping unless he comes forward to claim it as lost property.
