...Teruhiko Matsumoto, a Japanese tourist in China, has spent almost a month sleeping in a train station in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. The 46 year old lost his wallet and passport, and couldn’t ask for help out fear that people would think he was a beggar, not to mention the anti-Japanese sentiment in the country right now, but locals discovered his plight and provided him with food and clothing.
Matsumoto, visiting from Akashi, Hyogo Prefecture, arrived in China around three months ago and spent time in Shanghai before visiting a friend in Fujian Province. The friend returned to Japan in early September, and when Matsumoto arrived at a Fuzhou long distance bus station, he realized his valuable documents were gone. Unable to speak either Chinese or English, the traveler says he took his luggage to a nearby train station to wait things out and sleep near some shrubbery...more...
