Kyodo via Crisscross: Mt. Fuji certificate proves a big hit among foreign climbers
Foreign tourists climbing Mt Fuji, a key symbol of Japan, are returning home with a lifetime souvenir this summer. About 400 foreign climbers are expected to get an inaugural Mt Fuji climbing certificate issued by Yamanashi Prefecture between July 1 and Aug 30. Foreign climbers can receive the certificate for free if foreign travel companies organizing Mt Fuji expeditions apply in advance. The certificate is 18 centimeters by 13 cm and emblazoned with a photo of Japan's tallest mountain. It is available in Korean, Chinese, English and Japanese but more than 80% of foreign climbers favor the Japanese-language version
