Ok, the thread title is facetious, but how do you just "fall" from the 11th floor?

suicides on the rise in autumn? I thought spring time was the season....

Baby dies, mother hurt in 11-story fall

MAEBASHI -- A 2-month-old boy died and his mother is fighting for her life in a hospital after they fell or jumped from an 11th story apartment here early Monday, police said.

Although the 19-year-old mother is conscious, she suffered damage throughout her body and has not been questioned over the incident.

Her son was already dead when they were found lying at the foot of an apartment block in Naganohara, Gunma Prefecture, just before 8 a.m.

Police said the mother and her son had joined six other family members to stay in the apartment for vacationers on Sunday, sleeping in an 11th floor room. Her mother found the mother and child lying on the grass and alerted the police and ambulance services.

Police said they are not yet aware of the circumstances of the tragedy and have not ruled out it being either a murder or accident. (Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, Oct. 13, 2003)

She forgot to take off her shoes. So rude.

Jumpers in Japan must take their shoes off and align them "properly" at the edge pointing out just like the genkan at the front door (or leave a note). Long ago when I was a nama gaijin, my judo sensei took me up to the top of a building just after a jumper just so I could have the cultural pleasure of finding such shoes .
