Tokyo's $13,000 'hedonist dinner.'

FORTUNE / Wednesday, November 3, 2004
...Tokyo hotel is charging for the "Hedonist Dinner" this December. The pricetag? $13,000.
The Hotel Seiyo Ginza in Tokyo enlisted wine expert Robert M. Parker Jr. and legendary (and previously semi-retired) French chef Joel Robuchon to plan the feast. The wine list will feature eight rare historical wine---including an 1864 Lafite and a 1961 Latour a Pomerol (total bar tab: $200,000, according to Christie's). Just 22 seats are available, and the hotel will confirm only that "several" are filled and that it expects the meal to sell out.

Tokyo's $13,000 'hedonist dinner' will be no more

Popular Ginza boutique hotel closing its doors
The Japan Times | May 17, 2013
Popular with foreigners and known for its luxurious service, the small Hotel Seiyo Ginza, in Tokyo’s upscale district, will close on May 31, a hotel manager said Thursday. Its parent company is selling the building and site.
Opened in March 1987, the 77-room hotel is located in the Ginza Theatre Building, which also houses movie and stage theaters on Ginza’s main Chuo Street.
The hotel has followed the concept of offering refined service typically seen in “ryokan” inns in a Western-style building.
“It was called Japan’s first ‘small luxury hotel.’ We kept the size small, reducing the number of the rooms, like Western hotels,” said Michie Tabuchi, marketing manager at Seiyo Ginza.
