67 booked under new law on lock-picking

Postby Big Booger » Fri Oct 24, 2003 1:36 pm

The National Police Agency has charged 67 people with violating a new lock-picking prevention law during its first month in effect, sources close to the police said Thursday.

The law, which was enacted Sept. 1, to help prevent break-ins, prohibits the possession of special tools used to open locks.

Police seized tools for picking locks, including special implements used for opening deadbolt locks--a technique known as "thumbturn mawashi" in Japanese--from the hideout of a group of Chinese burglars.
