Why is it that every time there is a typhoon or other weather related event, that is all the news will focus on. Especially stupid is sending out some poor novice reporter to get rained on or blown away by a huge gust of wind.
I understand that people need to be informed, and while Japan is bad, the US is just as guilty, show the news, report on it and then move on.

Guaranteed ratings. Everyone loves a disaster story and its not like the city is gonna jump out of the way anytime soon. So they can "Be there live as it happens!" and crap, and people watch it, worried about friends, family, their car parked 2 towns over or whatever.

Most disasters are quick and violent and over almost before they've begun. but weather is stately, graceful, and murderous. it comes, hangs out for a bit, asks about your mom, eats out of your fridge, puts its feet on your coffee table and leaves the toilet seat up. Weather is not always a disaster, but you do often wish it hadn't stopped by.

Its the only real calamity you get to see coming and still can do almost nothing to stop. So they cover it, even shitty little squalls, in case it blows up into something bigger. they talk for hours about past storms, or snow, or whatever the hell it is going on, compare it, talk about what 'could" happen, and...

its like sports commentary. No one is listening, we just want to see someone get hurt.

Disasters are awesome. Nature's way of putting h00mans back in their places... Technology, gods... Nothing can save them from few earthly greasy farts. A volcano eats too much taco bell in Iceland... No more planes over Yurop for a month... Little quake here and there, not enough rain, too much rain, too hot, too cold... Mail get undelivered, trains don't run on time anymore... Actual human civilisation are the equivalent of a swiss 24h perpetual calendar self winding mechanical watch without a case, that you would take to a camping trip hanging at your neck and hope it will still work after a month in the bush.
Watch out for the camel jockey... Those guys can't be setback to the stone age by wars or disasters... They have not even reached that level of technology yet...

(Should dial back on zombie apocalypse novel... Makes you expect to be bitten by the 7-11 cashier anytime and not as foreplay)

Ugh....I drove through that shit on sunday night. First time drifting a minivan but not much traffic so wasn't much to hit. I still managed to make it through in reasonable time despite the suuuuuuper shitty visibility.

Yes, can't complain against the traffic in these case. But when the few other vehicles on the road are either unimogs or COE j-equivalent of Deuce trucks it's time to admit you should have stayed home...
