Accident of birth

Postby yanpa » Fri Nov 29, 2013 1:38 am

Auntie Beeb, in a rare display of multi-sentence paragraphs wrote:Japan: Man swapped at birth wins damages

A 60-year-old man switched at birth from his rich parents to a poor family has been given compensation, it's reported.

The Tokyo man will be paid 32m yen ($313,265) by social welfare corporation San-Ikukai, which runs the hospital where he was born in March 1953. Hospital staff mistakenly thought he was the son of a couple whose own baby was born 13 minutes later, says the Asahi Shimbun newspaper.

The mix-up "caused mental distress by depriving him of an opportunity to gain a higher education although his original family was wealthy", said Judge Masatoshi Miyasaka. While his biological siblings - and the boy brought up in his place - attended private high schools and universities, the unnamed man grew up in a family reliant on welfare. He graduated from junior high school and now works as a truck driver.

The good thing about having halfies is that no one here wants my kids. But yea, we've always gone to a smaller clinic/hospital lot less chance of a mix up.

Not with my ugly mug and temperament. The ONLY thing saving them from total nihon rejection is the wife's decent genes. But that total lack of group think gets my kids the cold shoulder in our little society.

I guess what I'm saying is this. It may be pop culture here in j-land but once you get past the "Awww hafu cho kawaii" and they see the merican tainting and its not so cool.

I also have been theorizing of late, here on okinawa hafus are so common that there is a lot less novelty to it.

Go main land and there is a big difference... Then again if you live on base and your wife has a typical base j-wife mentality, you are better off out there.

Did anybody else not find the award rather, well...........light???

Remarks about the amusing eccentricities of the birth order fixation aside, the award seems both easily defensible, and rather inadequate in amount. I would estimate more like a 100 million ballpark given his actual biological family.

My thoughts as well but I'm American so my opinion on litigation awards is usually deemed overkill by default.

I haven't been directly associated with the military for about a decade so no worries there. I have really been looking into moving to the sapporo area because I hate the heat. The wife hates the cold so we may settle in fukouka or kumamoto. My main issue is that I own a gym here and really put a lot of work into it. Would hate to leave it behind.

Where at dude? I wouldn't mind being a gym rat.
