This has come up time and time again.
The case has been argued time and time again One-sidedly, unfortunately.
This not a freedom of speech issue. Univerman666 never responds or engages, he just posts and runs. I would therefore not classify him as a contributing member. He is nothing more than a virtual uyoku sound truck.

The management doesn't seem to want to respond regarding the issue either. Seems like a "let's just wait until the noise dies down and then carry on as usual" type of thing.

Has the admin or any mod ever tried PM-ing this guy and requesting that he at least respond to comments and queries from other members? If so was there a response? Has any other action been taken?

It's actually getting a bit crowded down here lately. At first I enjoyed the company, but Wagyl's farts smell like an Indian train toilet in a heat wave, and this Univerman really is a tone deaf one note wonder.

So, anyways: 4 years seems a touch heavy, but he did come across as a real nimrod wingnut when all the crap went down. Didn't he turn out to be a mental patient?

First of all, I am fine with discussing this, but I hope it moves to a new thread, to avoid giving any credit to the OP.

Number of posts here is not as large as it used to be, but management cannot do much about it methinks.

Some people move on, others move in. It is difficult to change personal choices.

What is important for the forum, though, is to have people post news stories, like Mulboyne used to do.

One point that attracted me to this forum originally was the type of people here (long-term). I felt like being on the same frequency.

Another point that I have started to enjoy is people's personal projects (DIY etc) and the discussions they give rise to.

Finally, I have the impression that the contents-opinion balance has become more biased to the opinion-end lately. I have only been around for a couple of years, so I am not completely sure about it, but I recall some informative threads in the past about housing (that was actually how I found this forum in the first place).

This forum members' experiences are worth their weight in gold (or could be), because they are often much closer to reality than what can be found in glorifying stories in the press.

That is why we still attract posters like Jake recently, who has this interesting project to do autocamping in Japan from abroad on a low budget.

I still don't understand the whole story...sounds like he was arrested for some sort of altercation and escaped from the 4th story of the detention building he was being held at. 4 years for all that is pretty excessive IMO but then the "We Japanese" remorse and causing the J-police to lose face probably added the extra years. I wonder what the original altercation was about...
