I would tell these people "I'm sorry your family doesn't want to see you" ...![]()
canman wrote:SJ, I know exactly how you feel. I've been going home at least once a year, especially after my brother was killed in a car accident, but it is only for my parents. I would love just to stay here, or explore more of Japan, but I'm trying to be a good son, and my parents won't be around forever, so I suck it up and fly home. I feel some Japanese think that it is a little selfish to take off two weeks to go home, but for most if them it isn't a 25 hour trip just to get to your parents front door. As well as the cost involved, I want to get my money's worth!

They get mad when I don't visit them at their connivence, nevermind the fact I only have a few weeks. Their smartphone is more interesting than anything else and when we do get together they barely look up from the dam thing..

Last year I bought a bunch of beef tenderloin and ate steak every night. That was the highlight of my "vacation".

Are you careful not to stay more than 30 days a year or do you just ignore that rule and hope you never get audited?

Yeah, the Forces of Darkness have already sabotaged a lot of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and it may not actually stick.Samurai_Jerk wrote:Taro Toporific wrote:Then again, Japan is/was an exile for me because

Are you thinking of going back now that insurance companies have to cover preexisting conditions or do you want to wait and see if the ACA actually sticks?

I meant more than 30 days total in a year not at one time but I was wrong. It's 35 days (I guess 36 in a leap year).5. Were you physically present in a foreign country or countries for at least 330 full days during any period of 12 consecutive months?

T'other day I was walking past the group of smokers clustered outside the office block where I pretend to work and it suddenly struck me how much nicer it would be if they were passing doobs to each other.
Probably not in our lifetime
