Turn in Your Neighbour, Claim a Reward

Postby Yokohammer » Wed Jul 22, 2015 6:49 am

This is a bit shocking, but not altogether surprising.
Shades of 1923 but not quite so extreme.

Xenophobic wave of tips target ‘illegal’ Korean residents; immigration bureaus overwhelmed

An Internet rumor that hundreds of thousands of ethnic Korean residents are to be deported has seen immigration bureaus nationwide deluged with “tips” from bounty seekers and others about neighbors who in fact remain legal residents.

It has so overwhelmed local offices that the Justice Ministry has spoken out to deny claims that Zainichi ethnic Koreans with “special permanent resident” status are now subject to deportation. The group comprise mostly ethnic Koreans and their descendants.

It is unclear whether the rumor arose by mistake or was maliciously devised by racists and right-wingers, but it appears to have tapped a national thread of xenophobia, given the volume of callers trying to turn their neighbors in.

I think my neighbourg is a jew...
(Circa 1942, it was asked to report suspicious jewish presence... So... Self righteous patriots took upon themselves to find and report any suspected jewish tenant/families... Plus they had dib on half of their stuff... Which make the number of non jew reported anyway quite amazing... )

This kind of behaviour is just few step worse than any laws (or even rumors being enough here) that triggers it...
It's not just the state... It's the nation...

Yeah, it's just a stupid rumor.
The (supposedly) overwhelming size of the response is the real problem.

I have a modest proposal. Make them wear some kind of badge so people know who's legal and don't waste time reporting them.

Or a number tattooed on their wrist, for example. That way they wouldn't forget to wear their ID.

what has bothered me is that there is not almost seen any self-criticisms by z-koreans.
if they really are pround of being z-korean and love their mother land, they should not only protect themselves and thier home land but also criticize it(especially their home landers schizophrenic addictions to japan). but almost no one of them havent reached to my ears.
or if they criticize, something bad happens to them? eh?
its something like.....a traitor is more unforgivable than a enemy?
and most of them are descendants of the boatppl from jeju island where in post war the islanders got to be communists and south korean gov and army masscred them. now they can safely return to their homeland or emigrate another countries but they reject or dont plan to do it. nevertheless they also remain to not be japanese by anti-japan attitude in spite of being already 5th or 6th generation. its apparently a self-contradiciton or simply selfishness......
its a mystery and gives netouyos some justifications to abuse them to some extent.

Postwar migration, in its fifth or sixth generation? Or am I misunderstanding something here?

Edit: even if migration since 1910 start of colonisation, fifth or sixth generation?

If they all had babies young, it's possible but not likely. I'm at the opposite extreme. I'm only (about) 40 and was born when my parents were in their early and mid 20's but my great-grandfather fought in the Civil War. He and my grandfather had kids late in life.

The hilarity never stops.

I somehow doubt 5th or 6th gen Zainichi can be identified as zainichi by most Japanese. Most can't identify a 2nd gen Korean-Japanese and think one of my J-girl friends is "haafu" or "gaijin mitai!"

Why would a 2nd generation Zainichi Korean look like a gaijin?

That's my point...none of them look "gaijin" to the average Japanese.

z-ones immigrated in post war cannot be 5 or 6th gen exactly yea. its just my careless mistake.
but ones in colonized era are already.

z-koreans dont really neccesarily become japanese japanese. all they need to do is become korean japanese. but they even reject it....
i also guess there are some reasons peculiar to j-society, which not only z-korean but also even other foreigners, who came from no-institutionalized-anti-japan countries, dont recognize themselves as a member of j-society even if they live here for a long time. or which they dont call themselves japanese no matter how long they live here.
what is that?

If they have been marginalized all along, then of course they won`t want to join the main culture once they have reached an age where that is possible. It is a form of rebellion, or resistance. They are marginalized by not being recognized and treated as equals.
