340 wallets, 100 smartphones stolen at Waseda Academy's summer training camp

Police are investigating the theft of smartphones and wallets during a summer training camp organized by the cram school operator Waseda Academy last weekend.

According to police, 340 students had their wallets stolen, along with about 100 smartphones, Fuji TV reported Tuesday. The Waseda Academy was using Hotel Shiga Kogen in Nagano Prefecture, where their middle school students had begun their summer program on the night of Aug 8.

Camp counselors had taken the possessions of the 340 students who were staying for the program and had stored them in a cardboard box and left the box in an unlocked room at the hotel. On Aug 9, around 5:30 a.m., a staff member noticed the items were missing.

Police said they are examining surveillance camera footage to see who went into the room.

Around 4,200 students are taking part in the Waseda Academy summer program at several Nagano hotels until Wednesday, but no other incidents were reported at any of the other hotels.

On Tuesday, Waseda Academy director Yutaka Yamamoto told a news conference that the academy would make full restitution to the students.

The staff are pretty taiikukai-kei too so you can bet that punishment of whoever is responsible within the organisation will be inventive. If I didn't suspect that that bird had already flown, I would have guessed the deflowering of the guy's anus.

Creepy....but after hearing a former US marine "in recovery" rail on military hierarchy, suppressing emotions, etc. and how it often leads to suicide, I think the whole quasi-military mindset isn't limited to just stuff like that cram school.

BTW I always thought people here had to be taught how not to get robbed the easy way. Want to break into any house? Take the door off the hinges. I remember a decade ago tons of women would hold their bag on their arm, then walk around with their arm out (and tons of them would get robbed).

BTW I always thought people here had to be taught how not to get robbed the easy way. Want to break into any house? Take the door off the hinges. I remember a decade ago tons of women would hold their bag on their arm, then walk around with their arm out (and tons of them would get robbed).

Haiving helped with a few summertime Rinkan Gakkos I always liked the inculcation of corporate identity part (it helps to dispel the delusion of individual preciousness amongst the mediocrities) but the staff were freaks. Not sadistic so much as creepy and weird. I got to meet Princess Masako too!

Being a FG I always lock the door cause I don't trust my neighbors at all - the people next to me are fucking filthy (at least based on the stuff they leave on the balcony) and the woman at the end of the hall always gives me shit looks. And there was one drunk asshole at night who tried to get in (wrong floor).
