Not so uncommon.

I have done that many times when I was younger.

The Sierra Club is a respected outdoors club that probably organises such hikes, hence her credulity. And apparently into known fire zones. In the summer to end all summers of drought, fire and brimstone. And, she does sound Jpaanese enough that The Scehdule probably overrode The Conditions. So, she gets a double digit IQ for judgement, and major applause for toughing it out. Where the fuck were all her hiking friends in the midst of all of this, btw???? These Facebook Hiking Club hikes do sound like a disaster zone in waiting, to be fair to Bucky. Esp. in real wilderness like the f'in Sierras. Feckin Baby Boomer amateur fucks.

And shit does sometime just go really, really wrong when you're 3 days out, and that's without the smoke. 2 hours inland from here and it's Peking level air quality this summer. The highlands are burnin', Highlanders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hiking with an adopted "hiker family" is totally normal and the Sierra club, totally reasonable.

She had her rescue whistle with her and used it....and made it to a creek with a broken limb...sounds just like a messed up accident though I always wonder why these people don't just stay on the trail where someone is totally guaranteed to come by sooner than 9 days...

Yup. Other than some bad choices she did everything else right. BTW, she probably left the trail because she needed water and couldn't get back to it because of her injuries. But where the F were her hiking companions? That's like in a weird mountain man movie where they just leave somebody for dead.

Edit: it seems she had left the base camp where the group was, fallen and injured herself and then couldn't get back, so yeah, shit does happen, well done.

Ahhh, well, that sorta makes sense but even if you couldn't climb back up the trail, remaining by it with your rape whistle might get you a less dramatic and quicker rescue when the rest of your group catches up...

The bit that made me giggle was a line in the article that mentioned how she was able to get drinking water from a creek "thanks to the water filter in her bottle". If I was lying lost with a broken leg in 99 degree heat in a wilderness surrounded by raging forest fires the concern over a touch of Beaver Fever in a mountain stream would be the least of my worries. Anyways, as usual with any hiking or outdoor accident, a series of seemingly innocuous decisions that snowballed into a serious situation, but she kept her cool and made it. What anybody that age is thinking of wandering off alone is beyond me, especially in fiercely rugged country like the Sierras, but good fer her, ferschur, o yeh eh! Samurai Spiritto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
