Zico tipped as new national team manager
Soccer legend Zico is the likely successor to Philippe Troussier as the manager of the Japan national soccer team, the Mainichi has learned.

The Brazilian's name is at top of a shortlist compiled by the Japan Football Association (JFA) hierarchy, and JFA officials have already made an official approach to his club, Kashima Antlers, where he is the general director

France wins in '98, Japan picks Troussier. Brazil wins '02, Japan picks a Brazilian.

Like with most things, Japan is one step behind and trying to catch up. And it does by copying a past success or innovation instead of trying to innovate on its own.
