Update:

Engrish news sources are slooooooowly dribbling out info about this because the Miss Japan organization completely forgot to release the Miss World news in English or any other foreign language.

Priyanka Yoshikawa (C) reacts with joy moments after winning the Miss Japan title during the Miss World Japan 2016 Beauty Pageant in Tokyo on September 5, 2016. The half-Indian twenty-two year-old model won the title to represent Japan for Miss World 2016.

She looks way cuter when she covers that honker. Is there a rule that a half kid must have at least one stupid name? (yes, yes, its like Julie or Natsumi............if your name is Badhphur or Rapanjinder)

Is this not getting a bit gratuitous? Its like Miss Mongolia being selected from the 0.024% of Mongolians of Dutch Heritage. Just pick a proper Japanese FFS. Plus the fact you would hope somebody with another parent wouldnt want to drape themselves on the meat rack like a cheap Kiyamachi Kabu whore, though I would happily drape her on mine...........yar yar yar hubba hubba

In this respect, humans are like dogs; the "mixed breeds" are stronger, healthier, live longer, are more intelligent and cuter than them "purebreds", so no surprise there.

Half-Indian ‘elephant whisperer’ crowned Miss Japan
AFP | September 5, 2016
A half-Indian beauty queen with an elephant trainer’s licence was crowned Miss Japan on Monday, striking a fresh blow for racial equality.
Priyanka Yoshikawa smiles as she holds the trophy after winning the Miss Japan title at the Miss World Japan 2016 Beauty Pageant in Tokyo on September 5, 2016
Priyanka Yoshikawa’s tearful victory comes a year after Ariana Miyamoto faced an ugly backlash for becoming the first black woman to represent Japan.
Social media lit up after Miyamoto’s trail-blazing triumph as critics complained that Miss Universe Japan should instead have been won by a "pure" Japanese rather than a "haafu" — the Japanese for "half", a word used to describe mixed race.
"Before Ariana, haafu girls couldn’t represent Japan," Yoshikawa told AFP in an interview after her exotic Bollywood looks helped sweep her to the title.
"That’s what I thought too. I didn’t doubt it or challenge it until this day. Ariana encouraged me a lot by showing me and showing all mixed girls the way."
Yoshikawa, born in Tokyo to an Indian father and a Japanese mother, vowed to continue the fight against racial prejudice in homogenous Japan, where multiracial children make up just two percent of those born annually.
"I think it means we have to let it in," said the 22-year-old when asked what it signified for her and Miyamoto to break down cultural barriers.
"We are Japanese. Yes, I’m half Indian and people are asking me about my ‘purity’ — yes, my dad is Indian and I’m proud of it, I’m proud that I have Indian in me. But that does not mean I’m not Japanese"…
<snip>
…
Reaction to Yoshikawa’s victory failed initially to trigger any real outrage, although predictably some were unhappy.
“What’s the point of holding a pageant like this now? Zero national characteristics,” grumbled one Twitter user, while another fumed: “It’s like we’re saying a pure Japanese face can’t be a winner.”
As the Japanese government continues to push its “Cool Japan” brand overseas to entice foreign tourists for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Yoshikawa promised to win over any doubters.
“There was a time as a kid when I was confused about my identity,” she admitted. “But I’ve lived in Japan so long now I feel Japanese” ...

Well put, and agreed, but I still find it gratuitous and pandering. And I wouldn't think to question she has sufficient "talent" to deserve the Top Meat Medal. On a side note, the Soy Korma is by far the best mix statistically speaking. She's stunning, and almost as hot as the receptionist at the Osaka Indian Consulate. But it's still kinda silly.

I still find it hilarious when the locals hold these two up as a sign of j-social progress when, if anything, it has tended to showcase the lack of it...

When you hear the people on these so-called news channels on YouTube like TYT try to pronounce haafu when they cover these stories you realize they're not making the connection between it and "half."

"Hi-foo," "hay-foo," etc.

We could both write one and that would Double our efforts.

https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%B7%B7%E8%A1%80
According to Jpn Wikipedia Ha-fu is the "accepted or common term", and is only 'sometimes considered' discrimnatory or racist, whereas Konketsu or ainoko are considered discrimnatory and thus avoided. I hate the word but it does strengthen the media's case for use by at least half. I quite like Kokusai-ji (国際児) as neutral but it has no ring to it and isn't even a Katakana word, which seems to be half the battle lost already. I actually think Mikkusu would be nicer than Half, and I despise every Katakana word ever devised.

SJ,
Those twerds don't think or know any Japanese word could be a loan word: Japan is an island country of pure race and culture, you know  :cry2:

Oh, and you are a Japan Hater, too.

My issue isn't with the media using the commonly accepted term haafu. It's the way they describe as Japanese for "half" that is a pet peeve. It would be like them doing a story about McDonald's Japan's falling sales and writing "hanbaagaa, the Japanese word for 'hamburger.'" I know I'm being overly pedantic (Isn't that redundant like over exaggerate?) but what they should say is "in Japan the English word half is used to describe people of mixed Japanese and non-Japanese heritage" or something like that.

It ranks second to my other linguistic pet peeve in reports about Japan where they say give a Japanese term and then say it literally means so-and-so by giving a straight translation of each kanji in a string of English vocabulary. Yeah, that might be technically true but so the fuck what?

Your inability to learn the language has nothing to do with its level of development. Plus my gripe is with how the English language press describes certain terms in Japanese not with Japanese.

I saw something like that when I taught high school on JET and the girl being told she needed to dye her hair wasn't even harfoo. She just had hair that was naturally a little ligher than your average Japanese person. The teacher in charge of making sure the students didn't break the dress code refused to believe her and reduced her to tears by agressively berating her in front of everyone. Good times, good time.

I've always wondered if that's why so many Japanese seem to feel such an affinity for France and French. I get why philologists would be interested in a dead language, but why people with a working economy and society? Pidgins do tend to flock together, though, so maybe that's it. A sort of Paris Syndrome of a different kind?

Dunno, I think the Japs should keep their mono-culture together.

Just look at multicultural cesspits like Australia. Home invasions, ram raids by Dindu's are becoming the norm. Typically the darker the skin the worse they are. Still have plenty of white trash as well.

The best cure for that is for them to spend time around French people and realize what a bunch of miserable, selfish, self centered cunts they are.
