Japan's masked politician

Postby DJEB » Wed May 07, 2003 8:56 am

A Japanese wrestler-turned-politician has insisted on wearing a brightly patterned mask - his trademark in the ring - for his new job as a local councillor.

Critics say it is "indecent" that Masanori Murakawa refuses to reveal his face.

Almost 6 years later, AFP has trotted out the same photo to accompany this inglorious episode for The Great Sasuke:

I wonder if they'll (or did) interrogate him day and night for 23 days like they would an FG?

Japan: Politician Banned for Wearing Wrestling Mask to Meetings
@TIMEWorld / March 14, 2013
A Japanese politician has been banned from attending his local council meetings. His offense: refusing to take off his wrestling mask.
The man, who goes by the moniker Skull Reaper A-Ji, was elected in February in Oita, a city in southern Japan, after campaigning, masked, on a platform of educational reform and improved social welfare facilities...
...
Remarkably Skull Reaper A-Ji isn’t the first masked Japanese politician elected at the local level. According to the Daily Mail, there was a masked councilor who goes by the name “Super Delfin” in Osaka. And the former professional wrestler Masanori Murakawa, otherwise known as “The Great Sasuke,” was elected as a councilor in 2003.More...

I wonder if it set for a legal situation where any decision taken during this meeting could be invalidated on the basis that a legally elected member have been denied access on baseless grounds.
