The Japanese government reportedly wants to acquire Tomahawk cruise missiles as a defense against North Korea's missile program. If true, this would be a sharp departure from the country's pacifist security polic, and a reflection of the new reality for nations near North Korea.

I couldn't agree with you more, but the Norks aint gonna hit anyone (apart from the occasional scuffle with their brethren or the accidental clash with an odd Merkin <emphasis on "odd">). It would be the end of the regime and nobody really wants that.
Japan will get is military back in due course, probably sometime shortly after the Tokyo Limpics, I reckon.

WTF is going on? Was there some US political "expert" on the news or something recently? Lately, I can't go out anywhere without all the locals asking me "When is Trump going to bomb North Korea?" Nearly all of them have the same theory that Trump will do this in order to stay in power.

First I've heard of it but it isn't completely incredible. The man is in deep deep doo doo with no apparent way out that's for sure. Starting a high profile foreign war to save an autocrat's bacon is tried and tested SOP. North Korea looks a very very good candidate except for all those Americans living within crudish but effective and numerous artillery range. As long as he's prepared to accept casualties in the 10s of thousands, and why wouldn't he given the personal stakes, it looks a perfect candidate.

I don't think, it will happen. What's in it for Trump? North Korea is a nobody in world politics, and they were just a little whiney now and them but overall pretty harmless in the last decades. However, they would likely fight to their last drop of blood, if attacked, while the Yanks would not. And it'd be ikely to raise Chinese eyebrows, yada.

Is Trump really so deep in a hole domestically or is that just wishful tninking of the world press?

I'd reckon that you would be much more likely to stand up and defend your own house, home, family, existence from invaders than to go kill fucking foreigners, just because Trump of all people tells you to.

I guess, the Americans could learn from their experience, when they thougt they could just leisurely stroll into Iraq, hearts and minds and all that bs ...
