Japan's newest mystery map icons

Postby Taro Toporific » Tue Mar 19, 2019 6:40 pm

Japan to add first new symbol to maps in 13 years, can you guess what it means?
soranews24.com | 2019/03/18
...
on the 15th of this month, the Japanese Geographical Survey Institute announced that they would be adding a new symbol to maps.
Here’s a glimpse of what the symbol looks like. Can you guess what what it means?

The ANSWER and more...
I would have guessed the above map icon was for a public USB charging station.

BTW: Can you ID all them?

At the first glimpse, I thought that it might be a sign for sideways parking.

That may soon be needed....the locals that call you young surely aren't improving their driving skills. I had this jiji in black Lexus hybrid cut me off, drive in the middle of two lanes, and just when it looked like we would be parting ways, he slams on his brakes just as he enters the intersection. I layed on my kurazzzion for a good 10 seconds before he moved forward enough for me to make a left and see him with a map spread out across his dash like a newspaper. It was an experience i'd rather forget but then on the way to work yesterday I was almost sideswiped....by the same fucking guy driving down the road half in both lanes again. :wall:

I invite you to drive here. You will soon be very nostalgic for any Chinese driving experience.

Where is here?

Chinese driving....if the insurance companies could adjust your rates based on GOS, looking at where you drive, the Chinatowns near my jikka would be out of reach of most...

Ahh yes, my boss was saying something along the lines of "Okinawan driving school chose to ignore the section on checking your side mirrors."

To be fair, most in Tokyo seem to view turn signals as an optional courtesy, to be engaged when already turning. I guess they have the extra time for it when they make extra wide and slow bigrig style turns in their kei cars.
