When we were first looking for land for our house we were considering tsukuba (and other spots along the express line), reading your posts makes me glad we decided against it. :D

The percentage of Japanese mental illness patients was one-third that in the United States, half that in France and the Netherlands, and the same number as in Germany and France.

So 24% of Japanese are mentally ill, and that's one-third of the amount in the US, so that means 72% of Americans are mentally ill. Yes, sounds about right.

Never criticize anyone until you've walked several kilometres in their shoes.
Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.

The amount of people I see walking down the street talking to or arguing with with themselves is amazing. Of course now I'm forced to do it too...gotta blend in.

Oh, oh, I guess the U.S. wins by 4%

More than 45 million Americans, or 20 percent of U.S. adults, had some form of mental illness last year, and 11 million had a serious illness, U.S. government researchers reported on Thursday.Young adults aged 18 to 25 had the highest level of mental illness at 30 percent, while those aged 50 and older had the lowest, with 13.7 percent, said the report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration or SAMHSA.
The rate, slightly higher than last year's 19.5 percent figure, reflected increasing depression, especially among the unemployed, SAMHSA, part of the National Institutes of Health, said.

Or the pill pushers are winning as they label every little thing mental illness.

Ketou has a good point. It does seem that a lot more "states of mind" are being labeled as mental illnesses these days. Depression, AADA, and other "mental illnesses" are just character traits in their milder form. I get the feeling that the threshold for defining something as an illness has shifted in favor of the people who sell treatment and drugs.
