If it's all LED, I doubt it's near as much as we're imagining.

The type revered in Japan where everything is "famous."

...it'll probably be printed on all kinds of goods, made into keychains, and become the 名物 of the area

Not that there's anything wrong with a locale doing something like this but like music, "talent," and sooo many other things here that are just so manufactured....it's not too impressive. (how many more years til we see every major city doing this?) If they had a legit artist create some designs or something and give it some sort of Osaka inspired feel that would be one thing...but this looks like some jiji with influence visited roppongi hills for the first time and decided to one up them as the latest manifestation of the traditional kansai/kanto pissing contest.

As usually you're hung up on how shitty Japan is. This is a Guinness record and this kind of idiocy happens all over the world.

Oh yes it does. At least though Japan does have a lot of things it's actually famous for, unlike Denmark, who is mediocre in a lot of things and still shouts about how famous they (think they) are.

Yea but not all countries have a recently blown up nukaplant, a supposed electricity production shortfall, a near total dependency on import for coal and threat for the populace to suffer throught blackouts if nukaplants are not restarted...

AND BRAG ABOOT THEIR FUCKING CHRISTMASS ILLOOMINASHIUN...

THAT START TO BE QUITE A LONG AND JUSTIFIED LIST OF ITEM TO PUT IN THE "JAPAN SUX DONKEY DONGS" COLUMN.

According to TripIt, I've been to 23 countries in the last 12 months, and I can say that ALL of them have something that puts them in the equus africanus asinus fellatiating column with equally asinine activities. The world sucks, Japan is no more or less retarded than any other. If a Guinness record brings a little something to smile about, good on em.

Comrade, yes, I know, this planet sux...
But in the case of Japanese illumination it rubs it in like if Al quaeda/Isis got the record for the biggest bikini contest.

It's that little drop too much... They should stick to potentially less controversial category, like their fight with england for the worst dental care. Or that race to the bottom with China for the most hateful automotive design put into production. (Wait to see the new full size 4x4 lineup from Toyota, even Dong Feng might not be able to fuck up better).

Subjected to J-TV last night and they had some cute young dentist on myth-busting shit the "talent" said. Apparently many people here still brush their teeth with salt?! (The dentist lemur was like...not good, don't do that, it'll scratch your teeth and doesn't clean) One of the SMAP guys was like "but it makes my teeth feel sooo smooth!"

I gave up on that shit a loooong time ago...same with shampoo, hand soap, body soap, etc. Easy to bring back and about half the cost...if that. Even better is the deals you get when you buy in bulk.
