Actually I doubt very much that you would treat them badly because you have grasped it. Spanking/smacking or whatever people want to call it is exactly child beating and doesn't achieve any worthwhile outcomes while achieving plenty of negative ones.

I have two teenage children and haven't ever seen any need to beat them. And that's that. I have had to take serious issue with them and make them realise properly certain behaviours are not acceptable now and agin. But it has been very rare and anyone who can't do that without using violence is a nincompoop.

Seriously though, I don't find anything wrong with spanking if it's used effectively...meaning, the kids actually learn there are consequences when they make a shitty decision they should have known not to make.....not where the parent channels their anger/stress in the heat of the moment and you end up with a traumatized child that is only focused on "daddy is scary"

You know some people are just frickin crazy, chemical imbalances in the brain.

Then there is the weird influence of mass disasters, remember the Kobe kid? Kids absorb the news cycles in ways we might not expect. Add to that all the weird shit in media, social, mainstream, alternative, game. Pointing the finger only at Pappy from the luxurious position of not dealing with a crazy kid directly is a bit rash.

Hitting kids doesn't do much except piss them off, but you can also fuck kids up with verbal abuse and nasty control games. Reasoning doesn't work always, especially with small kids, giving them complex concepts to deal with just confuses them and can be damaging in the long run.

From my limited experience of dealing with kids, and having been one myself I'd say boys can be nasty, nasty girls are rarer, but the ones that are bad are extremely bad.

Well, one thing i respect about you is that you're honest...

It might just be a cultural thing about spanking, cause i was beat when i was a kid, being a beaner and whay not... And i think i have a huge bias on spanking vs beating due to that.

Then again all the people i have spoke to that consider spanking is the same as beating have been white.

But in hindsight, i would like a pass on the memories of getting kicked on the ground if i could. So if that didn't happen i may be against spanking too?

I'm guessing that is a flippant throw away line, but part of me wants to say, "Yeah, because standing between your children and the person they love, and refusing to let them have the chance to make their own mistakes (or not) is a sure fire way to gain their everlasting respect and affection."
