Yamagiwa Soft, Mister Donut Burn
A fire gutted multimedia retailer Yamagiwa Soft's Akihabara branch in Tokyo today, in sad news for habitues of the famous electronics district. The shop, one of the larger landmarks on the main drag of the "Electric Town," which is crowded with retailers of games, software, appliances, computers, and other electronics, caught fire at one o'clock in the afternoon Tokyo time.
No customers or staff were harmed, but the first four floors of the eight-floor shop -- which sells music, movies, games, software, character goods, and other what-not -- were gutted by the blaze. Japanese Internet portal site Kakaku.com delivered some fairly frightening pictures of the damage.
Neighboring buildings were also damaged, including the Electric Town branch of the popular Mister Donut chain, famed for offering "The World's Best Coffee and Fresh Donuts." How long electronics shoppers will be forced to seek donuts elsewhere is so far unclear.
I found the pic on Nekobaba, then tracked down the story through Google. Kinda strange to see a place you've been to in flames.
