Researchers in Britain have found that people who speak Mandarin Chinese use both sides of their brain to understand the language.
This compares to English-language speakers who only need to use one side of their brain.

This perhaps makes sense. The FGs who make the most head-way with the language seem to be Dyslexic (suffers use both sides of the brain) - and speaking many Euro- langauges before learning Japanese seems to have no advantages as far as Japanese is concerned
