I never understand animal smugglers - or people that purchase animals like this.

What sort of people do this? Are they "serious collectors" and they just have to have this particular turtle to complete the set? Or are people only purchasing them because it is illegal to do so? Would making exports like this legal actually kill the market and thus stop these endangered species from dying? (no I am not suggesting this)
